Sefarim & More
1. Torah Learning & Hebrew Literacy – $975 One of our most urgent priorities is strengthening Hebrew literacy across our kehila. Many of our children, youth and elders still do not know how to read and write Hebrew fluently. To build real literacy for Torah, tefillah and Shabbat, we need sets of Hebrew textbooks for group study and basic learning supplies for our Hebrew class. Without Hebrew, observance risks becoming routine. With it, our 213 members can connect to Torah with understanding. This is the foundation for all other mitzvot. 2. Shabbat & Kashrut Infrastructure – $1,400 Shabbat is the heart of KKSY. Yet preparing kosher Shabbat meals for 213 members outside Mbale city is costly and logistically challenging. We are requesting support for weekly kosher food to sustain communal Shabbat meals, a 1000L water tank for which can collect water from the roof of our synagogue and plates/utensils so meals can be shared with dignity. This ensures that every member regardless of means can observe Shabbat and kashrut without shame. 3. Tefillah & Community Space – $1,205 Our beit knesset is where 213 members gather daily for prayer, study and connection. Today we lack enough tallitot and tefillin for boys and men learning mitzvot and we still sit on the floor during long prayers though we have a few chairs. Support for 50 plastic chairs/benches and 4 solar lamps for evening and early morning prayers would make our space safer, more accessible and more welcoming. A dignified space strengthens kavannah and deepens daily tefillah for our whole community. 4. Chesed & Member Welfare $1,080 In a kehila of 213 members who know each other by name, when one family suffers, we all feel it. Elders require emergency medical support and 20 of our most vulnerable families face food insecurity each month. Transport costs to Mbale hospital are often a barrier during health crises. A small chesed fund for medical aid, 1 month of food support for 20 families and an emergency transport fund would protect our weakest members. This is pikuach nefesh and it is the heart of Jewish values in action. Total Request: $4,860 Your partnership would bring immediate strength and encouragement to the She’Erit Yisrael community and help secure Jewish life in Eastern Uganda for the next generation. We are committed to transparency and will provide photos, receipts and regular updates to show exactly how your support is used.
