Abudaya
The Abayudaya (Luganda for "People of Judah") are a Jewish community in eastern Uganda, based mainly around the town of Mbale near the slopes of Mount Elgon. The community was founded in 1919 by Semei Kakungulu, a Baganda military leader and former Christian who, after studying the Hebrew Bible, rejected the New Testament and led his followers to adopt Jewish practice — circumcision, Shabbat observance, kashrut, and the Jewish holidays.
